Orange City Hall
Historic Site Management Grant
Capital Preservation Grant Level II
Grant Award: $35,879 (2006); $140,500 (2008) Grant Recipient: Orange City County: EssexMunicipality: Orange
The city hall was originally constructed as a local public school and was later converted to serve as the municipal hall. The character defining features survive but are covered with paneling on the exterior and dropped ceilings on the interior. The building is in continuous use as a public facility and shows signs of wear and tear.
The current Trust grant is helping fund the repair of the brick facades and stone entrance stair, replace missing slate roof shingles, and repair exterior wood columns, trim, doors, and windows. The project is guided by a preservation plan funded by a 2006 Trust grant. A cyclical maintenance plan will be prepared as part of the construction project.
