Our Lady of Grace Church

New Jersey Historic Preservation Bond Program
Grant Award: $344,361 (1997)
Grant Recipient: Our Lady of Grace Church
County: Hudson
Municipality: Hoboken City

Built in 1878, Our Lady of Grace Church showcases the Second Gothic Revival style designed by prominent local architect Francis G. Himpler. The defining exterior and interior Gothic features of the church remain essentially intact, including its richly decorated rose window and highly articulated central portal. The Church is the prominent architectural element overlooking Hoboken's Church Square Park.

Unsympathetic masonry repairs in the 1960s caused extensive damage to exterior stone and brickwork, especially on the primary facade. The Trust grant helped fund masonry repairs including cleaning, patching, and brick and stone replacement, as well as repair and restoration of stained glass windows, the roof, iron fencing, front steps, and front entrance doors.
