Plainfield City Hall is an example of early 20th century Georgian Revival civic architecture that expresses the development of Plainfield from a small rural community to a prosperous suburb, and an example of the early 20th century "City Beautiful" movement.
The 2004 grant helped fund a new preservation plan to replace an outdated 1992 plan, and exterior restoration/rehabilitation of the debilitated exterior building fabric. The 1993 Trust grant helped fund replacement of the deteriorated roofing and flashing and the preparation of a preservation plan for the entire building.
