The Princeton Ice Company site, now known as the Mountain Lakes Preserve, is designated for its association with ice production, harvesting, and storage from 1884 until 1929. Located in what was formerly the Township of Princeton (now known as Princeton), in Mercer County, the Princeton Ice Company began in 1884 when the Margerum family constructed the lower earth dam to impound water needed for ice formation. The upper dam was added in 1902 as business flourished. The site operated as an ice harvesting and store facility until 1929 when in-home refrigeration became popular. Today, the buildings that were once used for ice production (including the harvesting facility with its steam powered ice elevator) are gone but their foundations remain. The dams have survived and stand as examples of the earth and stone construction methods of the late 19th and early 20th centuries.

The Trust grant will help fund rehabilitation and stabilization of the stone arch bridge on the Red Trail in the Mountain Lakes Preserve (also known as the Princeton Ice Company historic site).
