This handsome Second Empire-style building was constructed by Paul and Alice Shipman in the late 1860s. Since 1926, the building has been home to the Red Dragon Canoe Club, one of the oldest existing boat clubs on the Delaware River. Due to deteriorated conditions, the building is not fully utilized.
The 2015 Trust grant helped fund roof repairs and restoration of interior plaster work and the third-floor staircase. The 2019 grants helped fund a Conditions Assessment for the mansion and guest cottage, exterior painting, interior restoration, window restoration, and the creation of an archaeological management plan (AMP) for the site.
The site also received a grant from the federally funded Sandy Disaster Relief Grants for Historic Properties.
