Seabrook-Wilson House

Garden State Historic Preservation Trust Fund
Capital Preservation Grant, Level II
Grant Award: $574,378 (2002)
Grant Recipient: Monmouth County Parks Commission
County: Monmouth
Municipality: Middletown

The Seabrook Wilson House is one of the earliest surviving buildings in the Raritan Bayshore area. The oldest section of the house probably dates to the early 18th century and ties to the early settlement and maritime history of the area. The house and waterfront setting is a valued landmark to the surrounding community, now home to the Bayshore Waterfront Park Activity Center.

Guided by the Historic Structure Report generated in 1998, the 2002 Trust grant helped fund restoration of the exterior building fabric to its 1890 appearance and rehabilitation of the interior building fabric to comply with code requirements for public safety. The project also included a new accessible public restroom, archaelogical research and site improvements for this public park setting.
