St. Bernard's Episcopal Church, Bernardsville

Garden State Historic Preservation Trust Fund
Historic Site Management Grant
Grant Award: $43,384 (2004)
Grant Recipient: St. Bernard's Episcopal Church
County: Somerset
Municipality: Bernardsville

The design and construction of St. Bernards' Episcopal Church and Parish House were the products of a collaboration of some of America's leading architects including Henry Hardenbergh and the firm of Napolean Le Brun (his only non-secular building in New Jersey). The stained-glass windows were created by C. F. Kempe Studios of London, one of the most complete sets in the U.S. from this prestigious firm.

This grant helped fund an assessment of the church and parish house exteriors. The assessment will develop a 15-year long-range plan for phased restoration of both structures.  Solutions for barrier free access and restrooms will also be developed.
