A rare example of a central New Jersey milling and farming complex, Walnford retains its 1773 Georgian style manor house and one of the best examples of a millstone flour mill in the eastern United States. In continuous operation from the eighteenth century to the beginning of the twentieth century, Walnford will be restored to its early twentieth century appearance.

The 1995 Trust grant funded restoration and rehabilitation of the interior of the main house, the caretaker's wing, the ice house, and the cow barn. A previous Trust grant funded the restoration of the main house exterior, the grist mill and waterworks, and the carriage house. The restored structures provide a home for programs and exhibits that educate the public about the history of this unique site. The buildings are within a 556-acre park, which also protects the important Crosswicks Creek watershed.
