LIMITED UROLOGIC RADIOLOGIC TECHNOLOGY

Scope of Practice:

A licensed urologic radiologic technologist is permitted to perform urologic diagnostic radiographic procedures limited to the abdomen and pelvic area. A licensed urologic radiologic technologist is not permitted to operate fluoroscopic or computerized axial tomography equipment. The following tasks have been identified within the scope of practice of a licensed urologic radiologic technologist: positioning of the patient for an urologic diagnostic radiographic procedure limited to the abdomen and pelvic area, measuring the patient, aligning the x-ray tube to the image receptor, setting tube distance and exposure factors, exercising proper principles of radiation protection and making the exposure.

Education Requirement:

Completion of a 835 hour course of study in an urologic radiography program approved by the Radiologic Technology Board of Examiners (Board) or its equivalent as determined by the Board and document competent clinical experience within the last five years. If you did not complete a Board approved program, you must submit information contained in the examination/license appendix.

Examination Application and Information:

To sit for an examination in urologic radiography apply to the Bureau of X-ray Compliance. Click here for an application. The licensing examination is only offered via computer. The examination can be taken at one of over 200 test centers across the country. The minimum score needed to pass is 75%. The State's examination is administered by the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT). License Application and Requirements:

To become licensed in urologic radiologic technology, the applicant must meet the following requirements:

  1. Be at least 18 years of age at the time of the application;
  2. Complete at least a high school level education in the United States or its equivalent;
  3. Complete the above educational requirement;
  4. Be of good moral character as determined by the Board;
  5. Pass a Board approved examination or an equivalent examination within the last five years*; and
  6. Submit to the Department a complete application.

* In order to determine equivalency, if you passed another state's examination, you must submit proof of a current state radiography license and information from that state agency regarding its licensing examination. If this examination was administered by ARRT, you must also submit your scores in each of the examination's content areas.
