New Jersey Department of Education

System for Award Management (SAM) Unique Entity Identifier (UEI)

The System for Award Management (SAM) is a computer system accessed by the Internet managed by the U.S. Government. New Jersey education entities such as Local Education Agencies, Charter Schools, Community Based Organizations, and Institutes of Higher Education, must have an active registration in SAM.gov to apply for and receive funding from federally awarded grants through the New Jersey Department of Education (NJDOE).

Prior to applying for federal grants, entities must register to do business with the federal government and obtain a Unique Entity Identifier through SAM.gov and renew their registration every 365 days to keep it active.

When applying for NJDOE grants through the Electronic Web-Enabled Grant (EWEG) system, applicants will first be required to complete and submit a SAM Application in the EWEG System.

It is important to note that SAM.gov and the SAM Application in EWEG are separate systems. Entities must finalize their SAM.gov registration or renewal prior to beginning or amending their SAM Application in the EWEG System.
