About ECCU
The Employment Controls and Compliance Unit (ECCU) conducts fingerprint-based background checks for employees working in programs overseen by the New Jersey Department of Human Services (DHS) and the Department of Children and Families (DCF).
ECCU is responsible for collecting, reviewing, and interpreting criminal history record information (CHRI) to help ensure that individuals working in these programs meet safety and eligibility standards. This process plays an important role in protecting the health and safety of those receiving services.
For certain employees of the Division of Developmental Disabilities (DDD), ECCU also oversees required drug testing and Child Abuse Record Information (CARI) checks.
