What You Need to Know
The Process:
- Receive a Fingerprint Form:
Your employer or agency will provide you with the correct fingerprint form that contains the necessary submission codes. - Make a Fingerprinting Appointment:
Schedule an appointment with IdentoGO, the vendor authorized by the New Jersey State Police. - Get Fingerprinted:
Your fingerprints will be checked against criminal records held by both:- New Jersey State Police
- Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI)
- Acknowledge Your Rights:
You’ll be asked to sign a form acknowledging that you’ve read the Privacy Act Statement on the day of fingerprinting.
ECCU is committed to protecting your rights while maintaining public safety. As an applicant, you have the right to:
- Know how your fingerprints will be used.
They are used only to check criminal history with the NJ State Police and FBI. - Be notified of disqualifying findings.
If disqualifying information is found, ECCU will contact you. You have the right to challenge or correct the information before any decisions are made. - Correct incomplete or inaccurate records.
If your record is incomplete or lacks a disposition, you'll have a reasonable opportunity to resolve it. - Privacy protection.
Your CHRI will never be shared, even with other agencies or your employer, as per state and federal law.
- Your fingerprint data is used only for the intended employment screening purpose.
- Criminal history information is never reused. A new submission or authorized archive is required for any update.
- ECCU does not share your CHRI with any other agency or licensing board.
- Your data is protected under federal law (P.L. 92-544, as amended).
For New Jersey Applicants:
If you live or work in NJ (or within 20 miles of the NJ border), you must use the fingerprint vendor IdentoGO.
- Get a service code form from your agency.
- Schedule an appointment with IdentoGO using the information found on the form.
- Bring:
- Your completed service code form.
- One of the accepted forms of ID (see below).
- Be sure to keep the receipt and give it back to your program for records.
IMPORTANT: You will be turned away if you arrive without valid ID or the fingerprint service code form.

All IDs must be valid, not expired, and contain a photograph.
- State-issued Driver’s License (including Permit, Temporary, EDL, CDL)
- S. Passport
- S. Permanent Resident Card (I-551)
- Employment Authorization Document (I-766)
- S. Visa
- Tribal ID (federally recognized)
- Canadian Driver’s License
- Foreign Driver’s License (Mexico and Canada only)
- Government-issued photo ID (Federal/State/Local)
- U.S. Coast Guard Merchant Mariner Card
If you do not reside or work within 20 miles of NJ, you may still use IdentoGO if available in your area.
