Older Americans Month

The LTCO would like to join in the celebration of Older Americans Month this May and recognize the contributions Elder Americans make to society past, present and future. It is with your knowledge, guidance, and experience that younger generations learn how to move our society forward toward the best version of itself.

Residents' Rights Corner

Nursing Home residents have many rights under Federal Law.

Freedom from abuse and restraints – you have the right:

  • Freedom from physical and mental abuse, corporal punishment or involuntary seclusion.
  • Freedom from chemical and physical restraints. Restraints should never be used as punishment.

If you believe that your rights have been violated, call the LTCO: 1-877-582-6995 or visit our website www.nj.gov/ltco.

National Nurses Week

National Nurses Week is May 6-12! We are all so grateful for those people who have chosen to dedicate their careers to nursing. We extend a great big thank you to the nurses who work in LTC facilities and to the 12 registered nurses who are part of the NJ LTCO team.

“This is the best job that I have ever had. I have always been a huge advocate for patients/residents,” said Diana Campbell, LTCO Nurse Investigator.
“The job can be very rewarding and equally frustrating at times. There is seldom black and white with many shades of grey,” said Nurse Investigator Fred Golz.
A recent report in NJ.com stated that “New Jersey ranks among the 10 states with the most unfilled registered nurse positions with 13,404, according to Adzuna, a job listing site.”

Clearly, being a nurse is not an easy job, especially in the aftermath of a global pandemic. We all appreciate what they do and we are grateful that they are there when we need them. So, say thank you to your favorite nurse today!
