Directory Is a One-Stop Resource for Comprehensive Municipal Zoning Information

TRENTON, NJ - The New Jersey Department of Community Affairs (DCA) today announced the launch of a new Zoning Information Directory, a resource designed to make municipal zoning information more accessible to the public. The Directory contains online links to all known municipal zoning maps and zoning ordinances as of March 9, 2023. It also provides access to maps, zoning websites, municipal contacts, and ordinances, where this information has been published online. The directory, opens as an Excel spreadsheet, can be found HERE.

“The Zoning Information Directory is a vital resource for the public,” said Lt. Governor Sheila Y. Oliver, who serves as DCA Commissioner. “We pride ourselves on being a one-stop shop where the public can come to obtain valuable data all in one place. We remain committed to openness and transparency and will continue to create tools for the public to access DCA’s information, such as data on local governments, fire safety, housing, amusement rides, licenses and registrations, and disaster recovery.”

Information from the Directory can also be found on a new municipal zoning map layer in DCA’s Community Asset Map, which is a robust, interactive mapping tool available to the public, local governments, investors, and businesses looking to gain a better understanding of the characteristics and amenities within New Jersey communities. The map offers easy access to the community data needed to identify the best locations and opportunities for specific kinds of business and development. On the map, users can click any municipality that has an online map to directly access the official zoning map on its website or in its code of ordinances.

The Directory is an easy-to-access information resource that is populated with linked data from public resources, so DCA cannot attest to the timeliness of the information and recommends confirming its accuracy. Questions about the maps and ordinances should be directed to the appropriate zoning officer or official. Any legal questions regarding the information should be directed to the appropriate legal counsel.

The new Zoning Information Directory is just one of the many DCA resources offered on its website. Users can quickly navigate to DCA’s Data Hub for immediate access to valuable municipal data, the Community Asset Map, information about affordable housing developments, building permit data, fire statistics, and more.

The public can access the DCA Data Hub by visiting http://www.nj.gov/dca/services/datahub.html. The Hub also offers external links to non-DCA state aid from the Department of Education, Department of Transportation, and State Library.

DCA offers a wide range of programs and services, including local government management and finance, affordable housing production, fire safety, building safety, community planning and development, disaster recovery and mitigation, historic preservation, and information privacy.
