District Recognition

Lighthouse Districts

The Lighthouse District Initiative recognizes districts in New Jersey for illuminating the path toward academic improvement and student success. Through the Lighthouse District Initiative, the New Jersey Department of Education (NJDOE) is highlighting districts that have, over the past several years, demonstrated academic improvement in English language arts (ELA) and mathematics with diverse student groups. This award recognizes the hard work of the whole school district community including district and school leaders, teachers, students, parents and other community members. Districts are chosen by the New Jersey Department of Education without having to apply.

The Lighthouse Districts have demonstrated student academic progress as a result of setting high academic standards, using assessment data to identify each and every student's needs, and working tirelessly to provide the necessary educational supports.

Through their award year, Lighthouse Districts will have the opportunity to participate in professional learning and networking opportunities between Lighthouse districts and other districts, take part in diversity and inclusion training, and provide insight to the NJDOE through policy discussions.
