Accessing NJSLEDS - Login Instructions
Quick Summary
This guide walks you through accessing NJSLEDS for the first time through the myNewJersey (myNJ) portal, including how to set up your account with your personal authorization code. If you manage data for more than one district, it also covers how to keep a separate account for each County-District-School (CDS) code.
Before You Begin
- You must be a designated NJSLEDS user, submitted by your Web User Administrator (WUA)
- Use your district work email, not a personal email
- Your email, first name and last name must exactly match the information provided to the NJSLEDS team
- Never share your authorization code with anyone
How Your Login Works
NJSLEDS is accessed through myNJ, the myNewJersey portal. Login credentials are sent only to district staff who have been designated as NJSLEDS users, also known as Points of Contact (POCs). Your WUA submits these users through the NJSLEDS User Change Request Form.
When your account is created, you will receive a welcome email from the NJSLEDS team at NJSLEDS@doe.nj.gov, with "Authorization for DOE NJSLEDS" in the subject line. That email contains step-by-step login instructions and your personal authorization code.
Account processing typically takes one to two business days after your WUA submits the request. Processing may take longer during high-volume periods, such as active submission windows.
Set Up Your myNJ Account Correctly
Your myNJ account information must match what your WUA submitted to the NJSLEDS team, or your access will not attach to your account even after you enter your authorization code.
- Use your district work email when creating or accessing your myNJ account. This email, along with your first and last name, must exactly match the information previously provided to the NJSLEDS team.
- If you report data for more than one district, you must create a separate myNJ account for each district, using your district work email.
How to Access NJSLEDS
Once you receive your welcome email, follow these steps:
- Click the link provided in your welcome email.
- On the myNJ website, select Login in the upper left corner to open the myNJ login page.
- Do one of the following:
- If you already have a myNJ account: log in to your account.
- If you do not have a myNJ account: select Sign Up, fill in all required fields using the exact information provided to the NJSLEDS team (first name, last name and district email), then click Create Account. You will be directed to a new page. Continue to Step 4.
- Click or tap auth code on the right side of the Welcome page.
- Copy your personal authorization code and paste it into the field labeled Enter your authorization code.
- Select Finished. You will be logged out automatically.
- Log back in to myNJ. The DOE NJSLEDS link will now appear on your myNJ page.
Keep Your Authorization Code Private
Authorization codes are assigned to individual users only. If someone else uses your code, all accounts involved will be blocked in NJSLEDS.
This includes sharing your code with colleagues or activating accounts on their behalf.
Managing Access for Multiple Districts
If you work across districts with separate CDS codes, common for charter school networks, Approved Private Schools for Students with Disabilities (APSSDs) and contracted data coordinators, you need a separate NJSLEDS account for each district. There are two ways to manage them:
- Use a different web browser for each district (recommended). Log into one district in Chrome and another in Firefox or Edge, for example. This lets you stay logged into both at once and switch by switching browsers.
- Clear your browser cache between accounts. Log out of both NJSLEDS and myNJ, clear your cache and cookies, then log in under the other district. This works if you only need one account at a time.
To keep your accounts organized, consider bookmarking each district's login with a clear naming convention (for example, JSmith1234 and JSmith4567) so you can tell them apart at a glance.
If You Don't Receive Your Credentials
If you have not received your credentials within one to two business days of your WUA submitting the request, work through these checks:
- Check your spam and junk folders. The welcome email comes from NJSLEDS@doe.nj.gov on the day your account is created. Ask your district IT to check any email quarantine systems as well.
- Confirm your access with your WUA. Only designated users receive login credentials. Verify with your WUA or district data lead that you were submitted as an NJSLEDS user for at least one submission, and that your correct district email was included in the request.
- Contact the NJSLEDS team. If you are a designated user and still have not received your welcome email, email NJSLEDS@doe.nj.gov and include your full name, district name and CDS code, and the approximate date the request was submitted.
Reminder: WUAs and superintendents do not automatically receive access to NJSLEDS. Login credentials are assigned to individuals and may not be shared.
Need Help After You Log In?
For system issues that happen after you reach NJSLEDS, such as a missing NJSLEDS tile, an authorization code that will not work, or trouble opening the system, contact the NJSLEDS Help Desk:
- Web form (preferred): click the "Contact Help Desk" button on the NJSLEDS homepage. The web form lets you attach files securely and is required for all ID Management requests.
- Phone: 609-376-3970, Monday through Friday, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.
Note: myNJ login problems, including a forgotten login ID or password or a locked account, are handled by myNJ, not by the NJSLEDS team. Use the "Forgot your login ID?" and "Forgot your password?" links on the myNJ login page.
