Announcements and Updates

SPD 15 Delay of Implementation

Earlier this year, we shared that NJSLEDS is preparing an update to align our race and ethnicity fields with federal guidance under SPD-15. Thank you to everyone who shared thoughtful feedback and questions. Based on what we heard, we’ve decided to delay implementation of this change until the 2027-2028 school year. This means we will keep the current ethnicity field in place for now and will postpone updates that would remove ethnicity and add Hispanic/Latino and Middle Eastern/North African (MENA) within the race fields. We’ll continue to communicate timelines, training, and readiness resources well ahead of the new go-live date.

District User Survey

Thank you again to everyone who participated in our statewide user survey. We heard from 396 unique districts, which represent 66% of the total districts in New Jersey. We’re now working through the results and developing an action plan we can share back with districts, including key themes, suggestions, and potential fixes we’re actively considering. More to come soon!

Training Opportunities

Join us for a series of May webinars designed to support end-of-year work. Upcoming sessions include Student Management: Attendance (May 5), CTE Submission (May 6), Course Roster Submission (May 12), Student Management Submission (May 19), and Staff Management Submission (May 21). You can register for all upcoming webinars on our Trainings and Webinars page.

Change Requests Reminder

Please do not submit Change Requests as separate files or tickets. Submitting all requests in a single template and ticket helps expedite processing. Additionally, requests should be submitted only for students or staff who are currently active in your district. Requests for inactive records cannot be processed.

Course Roster Error Report

Based on feedback from districts during our practice period, we are adding Local Course Title, Local Course Code, and Local Section Code to the Course Roster Error Report for both Staff and Student submissions. We anticipate this will be completed by the start of the official submission period.

Tip of the Month: Why Am I Receiving Out of Sync Errors With My Staff Course Roster Practice Submission?

To avoid Out of Sync errors, double-check that your CDS codes are consistent in both Staff Management and the Staff Course Roster. Keeping these codes aligned across submissions supports smoother validation and can save time during review, especially during the practice period.
