Last Updated: March 23, 2026
How to Use This Page
Use this page to check whether an error you are seeing is a known system issue and what to do about it.
Each issue is labeled with a status:
- Known Issue We are aware of it and working on a fix. No action needed from you right now.
- Fixed This has been resolved. Re-upload your data to clear the error.

Current Known Issues
Change Requests
Known IssueIssue: Many change requests are being submitted without the required "New" identity fields filled in (such as First Name, Last Name, and Date of Birth). These requests cannot be processed and will be rejected.
When submitting a change request, all required "New" fields must be completed — even if the information is the same as what is already in NJSLEDS. For example, if you are only changing a student's Date of Birth, you still need to enter the student's First Name and Last Name in the "New" fields exactly as they should appear in the system. Fields that are not required in NJSLEDS (such as Middle Name) can be left blank if they do not apply.
What to do: Review the Field Change Request Training Guide for step-by-step instructions. Before submitting, make sure every required "New" field contains the correct information.

Current Known Issues
IEP Graduation Fields
Known IssueIssue: Since we are in the End of Year submission window, IEPGraduationCourseRequirement and IEPGraduationAttendance are currently required. You may not have this information available yet for qualified 12th grade students.
What to do: Use a placeholder value for now:
- Student has an IEP exemption or modification: enter 1
- Student does not have an exemption, or you do not have the data yet: enter 2
You will be able to update these values with correct information later.
Special Education Classification — Holding Code 19
Known IssueIssue: A new SpecialEducationClassification code (19) is available for preschool referral students and other students whose evaluation is in progress and eligibility has not yet been determined. You may see errors when using this code — those errors can be safely ignored for now.
When to use Code 19:
- The child was referred before their third birthday with a referral date between July 1, 2024 and June 30, 2025, or the student has a parental consent to evaluate date in that range
- At the Identification Meeting, the district determined that an evaluation will be conducted
- Eligibility has not yet been determined by the snapshot date
Grade Level fix (Updated): The Grade Level validation has been corrected for students under age 6. If you had records that were previously flagged, re-upload them to clear the error. Verify that Date of Birth and Grade Level values are accurate before re-uploading.
Fixed Items — Re-upload to Clear (8 resolved issues)
The following issues have been resolved on the NJSLEDS side. If you are still seeing these errors, verify that your data is correct in your local source system (such as your SIS), make any needed corrections there, re-export your file, and re-upload to NJSLEDS. The updated validation rules will run automatically and clear the error.
DateOfBirth Age Restriction for Adult Students
FixedIssue: The DateOfBirth field included an age condition that flagged records for students over age 23. This condition was not designed to account for adult high school students and has been removed.
What to do: Re-upload your data to NJSLEDS to clear the error.
Days Open for Adult High Schools
FixedIssue: Districts with adult high schools were receiving an error requiring Days Open to be between 180 and 250. This rule was not designed to account for adult education schedules. Students with Grade Level A1 or A2 can now have fewer than 180 Days Open, provided the attending school has a State School Type of 4 or 5.
What to do: Re-upload your data to NJSLEDS to clear the error.
Biliterate and World Language Fields
FixedIssue: New validation rules have been added for the Biliterate and World Language fields. If any WorldLanguageAssessment or WorldLanguagesAssessed field is populated, Biliterate must equal Y. English (ENG) cannot be reported as a WorldLanguagesAssessed value. Each language can only appear once across your WorldLanguagesAssessed fields. Additionally, a previous issue where the system incorrectly blocked the same WorldLanguageAssessment test code from being used for multiple languages has been resolved.
What to do: Review your Biliterate and World Language data. Make sure Biliterate = Y if any World Language assessment data is present, and that no WorldLanguagesAssessed field contains ENG or repeats a language. Re-upload to clear any errors.
FAFSA and Graduation Pathway Cross-Field Errors
FixedIssue: The rules linking FAFSACompletionIndicator, ELAGraduationPathwayIndicator and MathGraduationPathwayIndicator have been simplified. Students in grades 9–11 no longer receive pathway errors driven by FAFSA. The “denial of graduation” pathway condition (O or P) now only applies to Grade 12 students. Active 12th graders can now report FAFSA = C or E while Pathway = R before the EOY Snapshot.
FAFSA Quick Reference:
| Your Situation | What to Enter |
|---|---|
| Student is Special Education Classification 12 with a preschool program code, non-public, or shared-time vocational | Leave blank |
| Student graduated (exit code L) on or after Sept. 1, 2024 | Enter C or E |
| Student is an active 12th grader during the EOY Snapshot window | Required — use appropriate value |
| Student graduated (exit code L), any other date | Required — use appropriate value |
| Student is in Grade 12 with a denial of graduation pathway (O or P) and did not graduate | Enter N |
| None of the above | Leave blank (or enter C or E if you have the data) |
What to do: Re-upload your data to NJSLEDS to clear these errors.
Grade Level Validation for Receiving Districts
FixedIssue: Students reported by a receiving district were getting errors when the resident district’s CDS didn’t contain the student’s grade level. The rule now checks the Submitting School instead of the Resident School.
What to do: Re-upload the affected records to NJSLEDS to clear the error.
School Code Resident — Tuition Code 3
FixedIssue: When Tuition Code is 3, records were receiving errors because the Resident CDS had a FEDERAL_TYPE = 1 in addition to 4 or blank.
What to do: Re-upload the affected records to NJSLEDS to clear the error.
Attendance Field Decimal Values
FixedIssue: Decimal values in attendance fields (NumberOfDaysPresent, NumberOfDaysAbsent, NumberOfStateExcusedAbsences, RemoteDaysPresent, RemoteDaysAbsent) are now restricted to shared-time students (EnrollmentType = S) only.
What to do: If you have non-shared-time students with decimal attendance values, update to whole numbers and re-upload to NJSLEDS.
FAFSA Field Errors When Voluntarily Provided
FixedIssue: Districts completing FAFSA with 11th and 12th grade students were receiving errors when the field was populated but not required. The system no longer returns errors when FAFSA is provided voluntarily.
What to do: Re-upload your data to NJSLEDS to clear the error.
LIEPLanguageofInstruction “Must Be Blank”
FixedIssue: Users were receiving this error for students where LanguageInstructionEducationalProgram was blank. The rule has been corrected.
What to do: Re-upload your data to NJSLEDS to clear the error.
Special Education
Current Known Issues
No current known issues in Special Education.
Fixed Items — Re-upload to Clear (4 resolved issues)
The following issues have been resolved on the NJSLEDS side. If you are still seeing these errors, verify that your data is correct in your local source system, make any needed corrections there, re-export your file, and re-upload to NJSLEDS. The updated validation rules will run automatically and clear the error.
Special Education Date Fields — Validation Window
FixedIssue: Several Special Education date fields were being validated against the Fall Snapshot close date instead of the End of Year submission close date. The validation window has been corrected and these fields are now accepted through the End of Year close date, as intended.
What to do: Re-upload affected records to NJSLEDS to clear the error.
SpecialEducationPlacement “Must Be Blank” Errors
FixedIssue: Some records were receiving this error when they didn’t meet the handbook criteria (ParentalConsentObtained = N or R, or Classification = 99). The validation rules have been corrected.
What to do: Re-upload affected records to NJSLEDS to clear the error.
Early Intervention Age Calculation
FixedIssue: The age calculation rule was not triggering correctly for students who turned 4 in the previous school year. This has been corrected.
What to do: Re-upload affected records to NJSLEDS to clear the error.
Non-Public Student Sync Errors
FixedIssue: Non-public student records appearing as In Sync during the Special Education Practice Period were not being included in the Official Special Education Submission. Non-public students have been excluded from the Out of Sync requirement.
What to do: Re-upload affected records to NJSLEDS to clear the error.
Staff Management
Current Known Issues
No current known issues in Staff Management.
Fixed Items — Re-upload to Clear (5 resolved issues)
The following issues have been resolved on the NJSLEDS side. The updated validation rules will run automatically and clear the error.
CredentialType for Purchased Services Job Codes
FixedIssue: Some purchased services job codes were receiving errors requiring CredentialType when the position did not require a credential. The JobCode range for the CredentialType1–6 validation has been updated. CredentialType is now only required when the JobCode falls within one of the following ranges: 0001–0024, 0036–0041, 0044–0047, 0100–0699, 0707–0710, or 1000–4004.
What to do: Re-upload your data to NJSLEDS to clear the error.
Inactive Staff Member Salary
FixedIssue: The system was requesting salary information for inactive staff members. Salary fields (StaffCompensationTotalSalary, StaffCompensationBaseSalary, StaffCompensationAnnualSupplement) can now be blank when staff status is Inactive.
What to do: Re-upload your data to clear the error.
EmploymentSeparationType Errors for Inactive Staff
FixedIssue: Inactive staff members were receiving validation errors on EmploymentSeparationType even with correct values. The rule has been corrected.
What to do: Re-upload your data to clear the error.
AgeGroupTaught 2–6 Blank Rule
FixedIssue: AgeGroupTaught2–6 fields were requiring the field to be blank instead of allowing it to be blank when not required. The rule has been corrected.
What to do: Re-upload your data to clear the error.
Staff Sync Error Cleanup (NJ SMART Transition)
FixedIssue: Sync errors were incorrectly created during the transition from NJ SMART to NJSLEDS, creating duplicate records. The development team has cleaned up these records. If you still have remaining sync errors, make sure all staff from NJ SMART are properly reported in NJSLEDS with appropriate inactivation dates and reasons.
What to do: Re-upload your data with correct inactivation information to clear any remaining errors.
Staff Vacancy
Staff Vacancy Update: New RecordID Field and Data Reset
A new system-generated identifier called RecordID has been added to the Staff Vacancy submission. All existing Staff Vacancy data was cleared from NJSLEDS on March 19, 2026, at 5 p.m. The submission has reopened as of March 23, 2026, at 8 a.m. with an updated template and handbook.
For full details on what this means for your district, including what you need to do, see the Staff Vacancy RecordID announcement.
Current Known Issues

Fixed Items — Re-upload to Clear (2 resolved issues)
The following issues have been resolved on the NJSLEDS side. If you are still seeing these errors, verify that your data is correct in your local source system, make any needed corrections there, re-export your file, and re-upload to NJSLEDS. The updated validation rules will run automatically and clear the error.
Position Open and Closed Date Validation
FixedIssue: A new validation rule has been implemented to ensure Position Closed Date is on or after Position Open Date and falls within the current school year (July 1 – June 30). This rule is now in effect.
What to do: Make sure your Position Closed Date is on or after your Position Open Date and falls within the current school year. Re-upload your data to NJSLEDS to clear any errors.
DistrictPositionID for Eliminated Positions
FixedIssue: Records with PositionType = 4 (Eliminated Position) were receiving errors saying DistrictPositionID is required. DistrictPositionID is no longer required when PositionType = 4.
What to do: Re-upload your data to NJSLEDS to clear any errors.
