CARES (Crisis Assessment Response and Enhanced Services), a program of Trinitas Regional Medical Center, provides crisis response and stabilization services for a period up to 120 days for adults aged 21 and older with intellectual and developmental disabilities (IDD).

CARES staff work out of regional offices in various parts of the state to provide support to people with IDD who are in mental health or behavioral crisis wherever they are located. They work with clients and their families, and staff and mental health providers, by offering the following:

  • Clinical Crisis assessment to Screening/ERs during the day shifts
  • Direct consultation and clinical support to families and Mental health/DD agencies, including group homes, other residential placements, day programs, emergency rooms, and anywhere clients receive services
  • Technical support to families, sponsors, DD and mental health service providers
  • Link-up with relevant resources
  • Training for consumers, families, first responders, sponsors and service providers
  • Consultations at psychiatric inpatient units statewide
  • Project Echo Collaborative Learning and Training Series
  • High Acuity Critical Case review ECHO
