On February 5, 2020, the Atlantic City Marine Services Station received a call from the United States Coast Guard (USCG), Atlantic City Station, regarding a Fugitive from Justice. USCG Atlantic City stated they received a call from the New York District Attorney’s Office. Their Investigator provided a Warrant for the Arrest of an individual for Grand Larceny in the Second Degree (NY Supreme Court). The Accused allegedly embezzled $850,000 in cash from a client’s trust account. This fugitive from justice eluded law enforcement for over four years. She reportedly sold her home, changed her phone number, used aliases, and purchased a sailboat in order to flee. The New York DA’s Office indicated that the above wanted subject was possibly located on the sailboat in Gardner's Basin, Atlantic City. A picture of the wanted subject was provided, and the Warrant was confirmed. SSgt. Jaime Ablett #6211, Sgt. Michael Baker #6159 and Tpr. I Bryan Davern #7189 responded to Gardner's Basin. After observing a sailboat matching the description, they kept watch to confirm that the vessel was occupied before taking action. They then approached the vessel, identified the fugitive and placed her under arrest. She was later extradited to New York.
