Anthony R. Fotiou was born on December 1, 1957, in Atlantic City, New Jersey. He graduated from Atlantic City High School in 1977. He was a lifeguard with the Atlantic City Beach Patrol and a member of the Margate Crew team. Prior to enlisting in the State Police, he served as a sergeant in the United States Air Force from 1980 to 1985.
Trooper I Fotiou enlisted in the New Jersey State Police on November 19, 1987, as a member of the 109th Class. He served at various Troop “A” stations and various assignments in the Transportation Safety Bureau. His service with the New Jersey State Police was characterized by loyalty, fearless performance of duty and faithful and energetic devotion to the high principles of the New Jersey State Police.
Trooper I Fotiou suffered a fatal heart attack while conducting commercial vehicle inspections at the Carney’s Point Scales. He served 23 years and 4 months with the New Jersey State Police.
He is survived by his mother, stepfather, a sister and two brothers. Trooper I Fotiou was 53 years old.
