Richard E. Tesauro was born June 2, 1957 in Upper Darby, PA to Joseph and Joan Tesauro. He grew up in Bellmawr, NJ. After graduating from Gloucester Catholic High School, he attended Glassboro State College.

Captain Tesauro enlisted in the New Jersey State Police on January 26th, 1979 as a member of the 94th Class. He was assigned to Troop "A" and the Sea Girt Training Academy. His service with the New Jersey State Police was characterized by loyalty, fearless performance of duty and faithful and energetic devotion to the high principles of the New Jersey State Police.

Captain Tesauro died as a result of injuries sustained in the line of duty.

In the wake of the terrorist attacks on September 11, 2001, Capt. Tesauro was assigned to Ground Zero in New York City. Exposure to the dust and debris he encountered resulted in a cancer diagnosis. On October 12, 2019, Capt. Tesauro succumbed to his injuries.

Captain Tesauro served the citizens of New Jersey for 27 years before retiring in 2006.

Captain Tesauro was survived by his wife, three daughters, a brother and sister.
