Important Notice: Number of Petition Signatures Amended

As a result of the passing of P.L. 2025, c. 20, the number of signatures required on a nominating petition have changed. The new number signatures that are required for a nominating petition will take effect immediately. Further, “[a]ny petition signatures collected by a candidate for office to be voted for at the 2025 primary election utilizing the petition forms published by the Secretary of State prior to the effective date of P.L. 2025, c. 20 . . . shall not be subject to a petition challenge based upon the use of a form published by the Secretary of State prior to the effective date of P.L. 2025, c. 20.”

The new number of signatures required for a Primary Election candidate for the Office of Governor is 2,500. For the Office of General Assembly, the new required number is 250.

How to Become a Poll Worker

New Jersey’s counties, in partnership with the Department of State, Division of Elections, are actively seeking residents to serve as poll workers for the upcoming Primary & General Election.

Here are the answers to three top questions about becoming a poll worker:

1... WHY SHOULD I APPLY?

Your community needs you! By staffing a polling location, you will:

  • Earn $21.43 per hour on in-person early voting days and $300 on Election Day.
  • See our great democracy in action, firsthand, and enjoy the feeling that comes with contributing to your local community, your state and your country.

2... WHO CAN APPLY?

You can apply to serve as a poll worker in New Jersey if you:

  • Are a United States citizen and a resident of New Jersey.
  • Are a registered voter in the county in which you reside.
  • Are at least 16 years of age. College and high school students are encouraged to apply.
    Note: Those under 18 years of age will work limited hours per shift and do not have to be registered to vote. Contact your County Board of Elections for further information.
  • Are not running as a candidate in this election.

3... WHAT ELSE DO I NEED TO KNOW?

Possible work dates for the in-person early voting period and Election Day. Hours and days may vary.

Primary Election
In-person Early Voting Period: June 3, 2025 – June 8, 2025
Election Day: June 10, 2025

General Election
In-person Early Voting Period: October 25, 2025 – November 2, 2025
Election Day: November 4, 2025
