New Jersey State Government Resources

NJ Department of Health

The NJ Department of Health's (DOH) three primary branches are Public Health Services, Health Systems, and Integrated Health. Each aspect of the Department works collaboratively to strengthen New Jersey's health system.

Health Facilities

The DOH maintains a list of Hospitals, Ambulatory Care, and Acute Care Facilities.

Federally Qualified Health Centers

NJ's Federally Qualified Health Centers (FQHCs) deliver healthcare to all people regardless of their ability to pay. Individuals seeking assistance do not need health insurance to receive care at a health center. They serve the uninsured as well as patients with Medicaid, NJ FamilyCare, Medicare, and private insurance.

Quality of Care Resources

The DOH maintains information about the quality of NJ healthcare services and facilities. Individuals can also file a complaint regarding the care received if it did not meet their needs or caused harm.

Hospital Care Financial Assistance

For assistance paying for care received at an NJ hospital, individuals can apply for Charity Care.

NJ Office of Primary Care and Rural Health

The NJ Office of Primary Care and Rural Health, housed in the NJ Division of Family Health Services (FHS), maintains information regarding obtaining primary care services in the community including information about financial assistance, underserved areas, and populations.

NJ Special Child Health and Early Intervention Services

The NJ Early Intervention System, housed in the FHS, implements New Jersey's statewide system of services for infants and toddlers, birth to age three, with developmental delays or disabilities, and their families.

NJ Special Child Health Services Case Management Unit

Each of New Jersey's 21 counties maintains a Special Child Health Services (SCHS) Case Management Unit (CMU). These programs are funded by the DOH and each county’s Board of Commissioners. Their mission is to promote access to preventative and primary care for children and youth with special health care needs from birth until their 22nd birthday.

NJ Department of Human Services

The NJ Department of Human Services (DHS) has eight Divisions and a number of programs that offer a range of services and supports, including those related to individuals with disabilities. DHS manages programs for families with low income, food assistance, child care, healthcare, addiction support, mental health services, independent living supports, personal care services, and health insurance through NJ FamilyCare - Medicaid.

NJ Pharmaceutical Assistance to the Aged and Disabled Program

The Pharmaceutical Assistance to the Aged and Disabled program (PAAD), administered by the NJ Division of Aging Services is a state-funded program that helps eligible older adults and individuals with disabilities save money on prescription drug costs.

ARC of NJ Health Care Advocacy Program

The Arc of NJ's Health Care Advocacy Program promotes quality healthcare for people with intellectual and developmental disabilities throughout New Jersey.

Autism NJ Helpline and Find a Referral

Autism NJ's Helpline and Find a Referral provide resources, including healthcare services and supports throughout New Jersey.
