NJ Department of Children and Families

The NJ Department of Children and Families (DCF) has multiple offices that exist to protect children against abuse, neglect, and exploitation. These offices are responsible for investigating complaints.

NJ Division of Child Protection and Permanency

The NJ Division of Child Protection and Permanency (CP&P) is New Jersey's child protection and child welfare agency within DCF. Its mission is to ensure the safety, permanency, and well-being of children and support families. CP&P is responsible for investigating allegations of child abuse and neglect and, if necessary, arranging for the child's protection and the family's treatment.

NJ State Central Registry

The NJ State Central Registry (SRC) is New Jersey’s Child Abuse Hotline, and it receives reports of child abuse and neglect 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. All reports of child abuse and neglect, including those occurring in institutional settings such as child care centers, schools, foster homes, and residential treatment centers, must be reported to the SCR.

NJ Institutional Abuse and Investigation Unit

The NJ Institutional Abuse and Investigation Unit (IAIU) is responsible for investigating allegations of child abuse and neglect in out-of-home settings such as foster homes, residential treatment centers, schools, and detention centers. IAIU consists of a central office and four regional offices.

NJ Department of Health

The NJ Department of Health (DOH) works to promote healthy communities and strengthen the New Jersey Health system. DOH has three primary branches – Public Health Services, Health Systems, and Integrated Health. All work collaboratively toward improving health by strengthening New Jersey’s health system.

NJ Division of Health Facilities Evaluation and Licensing

The NJ Division of Health Facilities Evaluation and Licensing is responsible for inspecting and investigating hospitals, nursing homes, hospice centers, assisted living facilities, and most other acute and long-term care facilities in New Jersey.
