NJSLEDS Monthly Update | July 2026
Published July 6, 2026
Welcome to the July NJSLEDS Newsletter. The End-of-Year Student Management, Staff Management and Staff Vacancy submissions closed on June 30. Thank you for all the work that went into them.
This month brings two school years into view at once. The 2025-2026 school year is wrapping up: Staff and Student Course Roster and Career and Technical Education (CTE) Official Submissions are due by August 3, and the High School Graduation Snapshot, covering 2026 graduates, is due by August 31. At the same time, the 2026-2027 school year has begun: Student Management and Staff Management opened July 6 for this year’s Fall Snapshot collection, with refreshed handbooks and templates now available on the NJSLEDS User Resources website.

Announcements and Updates
CIP Code List and Industry Valued Credential (IVC) List Updated for CTE
Both the CIP Code List and the Industry Valued Credential (IVC) List have been updated for the Official 2025-2026 CTE Submission Period. CTE-participating districts should download the current versions from the CTE User Resources page and confirm their codes match before submitting data.
Field Change, Merge and Delete Requests Open for 2026-2027
Field change, merge and delete requests for Student Management and Staff Management are open again for the 2026-2027 school year. If a request from 2025-2026 was not resubmitted with the original case number before the deadline, it can now be resubmitted through the "Contact Help Desk" button on the NJSLEDS system homepage. Visit the Key Documents page for templates and instructions.
State Assessment Registration (SAR) Removed From NJSLEDS Starting 2026-2027
Beginning with the 2026-2027 school year, State Assessment Registration (SAR) will no longer be collected through NJSLEDS. Districts should register students directly in the applicable assessment vendor systems in accordance with the timelines and procedures established by each assessment program. This change supports ongoing efforts to streamline processes and reduce duplicative data entry for districts. We appreciate the feedback provided by district users, which helped inform this decision. For any questions, please contact assessment@doe.nj.gov.
Tip of the Month: Know What Determines a Unique Course Roster Record
NJSLEDS compares a specific set of key fields to decide whether a Course Roster submission updates an existing record or creates a new one. For Student Course Roster: SID, County/District/School Code Assigned, Section Entry Date, Subject Area, Course Identifier, Local Course Code and Local Section Code. Staff Course Roster uses the same fields, with SMID in place of SID.
If any one of these fields changes between uploads, such as a corrected section date or course code, NJSLEDS treats the submission as a different record and creates a new one rather than overwriting the original. This protects historical and longitudinal data, but it also means an unintentional change to one of these fields results in multiple records appearing rather than updating the original. See the Course Roster FAQ for more information.
Upload order matters too: Staff Course Roster, then Student Course Roster, then Staff Course Roster again. Submission records and error reports are not available in real time. Your Submission History will show your file was received, but you will not be able to review Submission Records or Error Reports until the next day’s processing cycle.
What We Heard, What We’re Doing About It
This month also marks the completion of a full school year with NJSLEDS. Year one included both successes and real challenges, and we want to thank you for your partnership through both. Clear themes emerged this year through user surveys, stakeholder sessions across multiple user groups, and Help Desk tickets. Here is some of what we heard, and what we did (or are doing) in response.
| You said | We did |
|---|---|
| Identity Management (ID) matching and historical record resolution created friction | Re-engineered ID Management workflows toward automated, standardized matching logic, including the June 2026 identity matching update that cleared many records previously stuck in Unresolved |
| Help Desk responses needed to be faster, with shorter case resolution timelines | Increased dedicated support staffing, added a tiered escalation pathway for complex issues, updated our phone system, and centralized case comments so districts can track updates in one place |
| Manual, multi-step data correction processes (deletes, merges and change requests) were frustrating | Working to automate and simplify delete, merge and change request processing as part of the same ID Management improvements |
| Districts wanted expanded self-service tools to resolve errors without waiting on a ticket | Added the Instant Troubleshooter tool and expanded FAQ and Known Issue resources. A New User Toolkit is in development to help districts get oriented and resolve issues independently |
