The goal of our Professional Relations Unit is to enlighten the medical, legal, disability advocacy organizations, military/veterans, and educational communities about the Social Security Disability Programs. The Professional Relations Officers (PROs) make informational presentations to professional health care and school communities about Social Security’s need for timely, accurate, and complete medical information. PROs educate doctors, hospital/medical records company staff, and other health care professionals about how information submitted is used in evaluating Social Security disability claims. They also recruit, train, and manage over 200 health care professionals statewide in performing Consultative Medical and Psychological Examinations as well as Speech/Language Evaluations.

One of Social Security Administration's (SSA's) five strategic goals is "to make SSA program management the best in the business with zero tolerance for fraud." The Cooperative Disability Investigations (CDI) Teams, which is managed by SSA and the Office of the Inspector General, provide greater investigative support to the state Disability Determination Services.
Since 1998, thirteen CDI teams have been operational throughout the country targeting doctors, lawyers, and other service providers who facilitate disability fraud. Their efforts have resulted in over $148 million in projected savings to the SSA program.
The Social Security Administration's Fraud Hotline may be reached at 1-800-269-0271. You may also contact the SSA Fraud Hotline by mail at P.O. Box 17768, Baltimore, MD 21235.
