In 1985, the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) and the New Jersey State Police (NJSP) entered into a partnership to combat domestic and international terrorism operations. Since then, a contingent of Counter Terrorism Bureau detectives have been assigned to participate in the Joint Terrorism Task Forces (JTTF) coordinated through the FBI in Newark, New Jersey, New York City, New York and Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.
The Counter Terrorism Bureau has remained a steadfast partner of the FBI on the JTTF, and has participated in numerous high profile terrorism investigations with national and global implications. In addition to the FBI, the Counter Terrorism Bureau has forged collective partnerships with a multitude of federal, state, county and local law enforcement agencies which have collaboratively enabled the NJSP to assure the citizens of New Jersey of its tireless commitment to combating terrorism.
The Counter Terrorism Bureau is also responsible for investigations of threats and other criminal activity directed against high level, elected and appointed officials, up to and including the Governor of the State of New Jersey.
