This was the first year of the funded program. A website and Facebook page were created, and several community engagement opportunities were offered.
Community Events
DRBC and its partners participated in a variety of community events in 2019. These efforts helped us connect face-to-face with the public, share information about the Delaware River and the many organizations that are working to protect it and encourage stewardship of our shared water resources.

Delaware River Sojourn Scholarship Program
The campaign also supports experiential opportunities to get people on or along the Basin's waterways.
In 2019, working with the Delaware River Sojourn, several "Sojourn Scholarships" were offered to individuals for a day of safe paddling and learning on the river. We welcomed Emily Pugliese and Jordan Brunette of Pa. State Senator Art Haywood’s staff (4th District), Erica Rosetti of the Partnership for the Delaware Estuary, Chancey Colon, a constituent of N.J. State Senator Shirley Turner (15th District), and Mike James and Brian Lestini, constituents of N.J. Assemblywoman Carol Murphy (7th District). All left with a greater appreciation for the river and the role it plays in our daily lives. In 2020, the COVID-19 pandemic put a stop to our robust plan for outreach activities and experiential events before we could even start.
While in-person events were not possible, we did roll out several components of the OSW campaign.
Illustrated Map of the DRB
An illustrated map of the Delaware River Basin (jpg) was created. Hard copies were printed and shared with OSW partners.
Educational Videos
Several educational videos were created. One, entitled Good Bugs Mean Healthy Rivers, was developed for the virtual Delaware River Festival. Two craft activity videos were developed for kids: Do It Yourself Horseshoe Crab Hat and Do It Yourself (Freshwater) Mussel Hat. And, a video about baseball rubbing mud featuring former Phillies Pitcher Cole Irvin was also created.
Rate Your Waters
The campaign's Rate Your Waters initiative was launched. Members of the public can enter info and photos on the map about their favorite DRB waterway, and watershed groups, teachers, students, etc. can enter more specific water quality data and reports to share. As more people enter information, the goal is for Rate Your Waters to be a valuable resource of information, by the people, for the people.

While there has been a return to some normal activity in 2021, due to the pandemic, in-person outreach activities were still limited.
Teachers Participate in Science Summit
In March 2021, Our Shared Waters offered scholarships to teachers to attend the Partnership for the Delaware River Estuary's Science and Environmental Summit, which featured a one-day Climate Forum organized by the DRBC.

Sojourn Scholarship Program
The Sojourn Scholarship program was expanded to the Lehigh and Schuylkill River Sojourns, in addition to the Delaware River Sojourn.
Getting people connected to rivers through paddling - and therefore creating new river stewards - is a mission shared by Sojourn organizers and the OSW program.
• The Lehigh River Sojourn took place from June 26-28, 2021. Fourteen individuals were given the opportunity to raft the Lehigh River on June 26 as part of the OSW scholarship program.
• The Schuylkill River Sojourn took place July 31-August 4, 2021. Five individuals were given the opportunity to paddle the Schuylkill River on August 4 as part of the OSW scholarship program.
• The Delaware River Sojourn took place August 6-13, 2021. Five individuals were given the opportunity to paddle the Delaware River on August 13 as part of the OSW scholarship program.

Experiential Sails aboard the Kalmar Nyckel
OSW partnered with the Kalmar Nyckel to get people sailing on the Delaware River. These sails were geared for local legislators and community members.
While sailing, attendees heard from DRBC staff and local businesses about why a sustainable, clean water supply is vital for all - people, business and wildlife - who depend on these water resources.
Two Sails were Held:
• One out of New Castle, Del. in August 2021. Unfortunately, extreme heat prevented the sail, but participants got to tour the boat before heading to a local restaurant for the lunch & learn.
• One out of Bristol, Pa. in September 2021. The weather cooperated for this sail, and participants were treated to a lunch and learn journey on the Delaware River.

In-Person Events
In-person events are back! OSW is excited to be able to get back out in our basin communities to teach about our watershed and engage with everyone we meet.
Visit the DRBC's Newsbytes section throughout the year to see where we've been! Examples of outreach events we've participated in this year include Temple Ambler's EarthFest, Shad Festivals in Lambertville, N.J. and the Upper Delaware, Trenton's Juneteenth Celebration, World Environment Day, Trenton River Days, Delaware River Festival and the Trenton Youth Fishing Derby.
The DRBC also held a webinar for OSW Partners to reconnect everyone and reengage on program goals.

Sojourn Scholarship Program
In 2022, the Sojourn Scholarship program offered scholarships to individuals to attend the Schuylkill River Sojourn or the Delaware River Sojourn.
Getting people connected to rivers through paddling - and therefore creating new river stewards - is a mission shared by Sojourn organizers and the OSW program.
• The Schuylkill River Sojourn took place June 17-24. The DRBC's OSW scholarship program sponsored five youth and their leader from the YWCA Tri County Area in Pottstown, Pa. to participate on June 22. In addition, four individuals were given the opportunity to paddle the Schuylkill River on June 24, 2022.
• The Delaware River Sojourn took place June 17-25. Four individuals were given the opportunity to paddle on June 25, 2022, as part of the OSW scholarship program.

OSW Partner Event at the Trenton Thunder
In August, Our Shared Waters and DRBC hosted an event at the Trenton Thunder Baseball Ballpark for local New Jersey OSW partners. Attendees included Assemblyman Anthony Verrelli (NJ-15), representatives from Mercer County Parks, Friends of the Abbott Marshlands, the African American Cultural Collaborative of Mercer County, Princeton Hydro, Delaware River Greenway Partnership and N.J. American Water.
We were also pleased to have in attendance Jim Bintliff and his family; Bintliff is the "mud guy," owner of Lena Blackburne Baseball Rubbing Mud. Mud he collects from a secret location in the Delaware River Basin is used by all major and minor league teams, as well as colleges, high schools and little leagues. Bintliff and Jeff Hurley, President and General Manager of the Trenton Thunder, provided remarks and showed attendees how to properly mud a ball.
Folks enjoyed the ball game against the Williamsport Crosscutters, gorgeous Delaware River views and the opportunity to connect with one another.

OSW Hosts Tour of the Limerick Generating Station
In December, DRBC and OSW hosted local Pennsylvania legislators and several government and NGO partners for a tour of the Limerick Generating Station, a nuclear power facility located in Pottstown, Pa. along the Schuylkill River and owned by Constellation Energy.
Before the tour, guests were welcomed by Constellation and DRBC staff and learned more about the Limerick facility and the DRBC's role in water resource management. Given that thermoelectric power generation is the largest use of water in the Delaware River Basin this setting was highly relevant.
The DRBC thanks Constellation Energy for hosting and giving us a tour of the facility. We also thank everyone in attendance for taking the time to learn more about the DRBC and water use in the Delaware River Basin.

Get Out! For Wellness with the Wildlands Conservancy
In April, DRBC Manager of Water Resource Modeling Tom Amidon joined the Wildlands Conservancy on two walks in the Lehigh Valley. The walks were part of their Get Out! For Wellness Program, which is a partnership of the Wildlands Conservancy and the Lehigh Valley Health Network.
One walk was in Northampton County's Louise Moore Park; Tom introduced DRBC & our connection to/work in the Lehigh. The second walk was along the John M. Mauser Nature Education Trail System & featured gorgeous views of the Delaware River. Tom spoke about the DRBC's SPW Program, which protects the existing high water quality of the entire non-tidal Delaware River.
Camden Environmental Summit
In April, DRBC's Director of External Affairs and Communications Beth Brown presented at the Camden Environmental Summit. Hosted by the Camden Community Partnership, this event focused on environmental justice, needs and programs affecting Camden communities.
Beth presented on the DRBC & our ongoing work to improve Delaware River Estuary water quality, access and connections in our urban communities.
