NJDOT suspends construction for Holiday weekend

(Trenton) - New Jersey Department of Transportation (NJDOT) Commissioner Jack Lettiere today announced that NJDOT is suspending all construction activities that impact traffic for the upcoming Labor Day Holiday weekend.

 

"As the last holiday weekend of the summer approaches, the New Jersey Department of Transportation is doing its part to make the motoring public's ride as safe and smooth as possible," said NJDOT Commissioner Jack Lettiere.   "Beginning at 6:00 am on Friday, September 2 nd all construction work that affects travel lanes on state highways will be suspended through Noon on Tuesday, September 6 th .   Lane closures will be permitted for emergency reasons only."


NJDOT will also be operating expanded Emergency Service Patrols (ESP) throughout New Jersey to assist motorists with disabled vehicles.

 

In addition, NJDOT's Traffic Operations Centers will be staffed over the holiday weekend.    Motorists can also get real-time traffic updates on NJDOT's commuter information website www.njcommuter.com .

 

Friday will be the most heavily traveled day, with highest volume expected between 2 p.m. and 8 p.m. On the Turnpike, the heaviest traffic will be on Interchanges 1-4, 11, 14, 18W and just south of 8A at the merge. On the Parkway, the heaviest traffic will be from the Union Toll Plaza through the Toms River Toll Plaza.

Motorists across New Jersey can take advantage of other motorist assistance services and initiatives on the state's roadways, including:

Phone numbers including #77, to report aggressive drivers; #95 to report disabled vehicles and accidents on the New Jersey Turnpike; #GSP to report disabled vehicles on the Garden State Parkway; and #ACE to report disabled vehicles on the Atlantic City Expressway.
