NJDOT to install median barrier on Route 29 from Sullivan Way to West Upper Ferry Road
Cross median accident prevention program advances
(Trenton) Commissioner Kris Kolluri today announced that starting July 14, the New Jersey Department of Transportation (NJDOT) will install median barriers on Route 29 from Sullivan Way to West Upper Ferry Road in Ewing Township, Mercer County.
“This project is an important example of NJDOT’s median-crossover protection program, which aims to protect motorists from cross median accidents by providing 118 miles of median protection statewide by 2010,” NJDOT Commissioner Kris Kolluri said. “NJDOT has already provided 81 miles of median crossover protection, making motorists less vulnerable to head-on collisions.”
The state-funded, $7 million project will improve safety by installing a dual faced beam guiderail along the northbound curb and resurfacing the roadway, which will extend the roadway’s lifespan by 10 to 15 years. The project is scheduled for completion in late November, 2007.
NJDOT’s median barrier installation will require single lane traffic shifts on Route 29 north- and southbound from 6 a.m. to midnight daily. On Route 29 northbound, single lane and ramp closures will be implemented from Sullivan Way to Shelbourne Avenue on weekends from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. Four Saturday detours may be required and will be posted in advance.
In order to minimize the project’s impact on the surrounding community, all noise-related work will cease at 6 p.m.
NJDOT will install Variable Message Signs (VMS) to advise motorists of upcoming traffic pattern shifts. NJDOT is working with the State Police to maintain safe conditions for workers and motorists in the construction zone.
