New Connector Road opens in Bordentown

(Trenton) – The New Jersey Department of Transportation (NJDOT) today announced that the new Connector Road between Route 206 and Rising Sun Road in Bordentown, Burlington County will open to traffic on Saturday, April 19.

The new Connector Road features three lanes eastbound and two lanes westbound.

“The opening of Connector Road will greatly improve mobility for the high volume of truck traffic around this important transportation hub,” said Commissioner Kolluri. “This project will improve traffic flow, safety and commerce.”

Saturday morning, April 19, NJDOT will open two new intersections, located at Route 206 and Connector Road and at Rising Sun Road and Connector Road. New traffic signals will operate at these intersections, and the existing signal at Route 206 and Old York Road will be removed. Route 206 traffic will remain in the current pattern in each direction until the completion of the remaining work under the NJ Turnpike and at the existing Old York Road intersection.

The opening of this new roadway is associated with NJDOT’s $21.5 million effort to accommodate heavy truck traffic in the area between I-295 and Interchange 7 on the New Jersey Turnpike. NJDOT will add a third lane and a shoulder in each direction on Route 206 and provide the missing move from Route 68 northbound to Route 206 southbound.

The project, which began in August 2005, also includes the widening of Rising Sun Road at Connector Road to provide a double left-turn lane for southbound traffic. In addition, NJDOT will widen shoulders and add a two-way left turn lane from the I-295 exit ramp and the left turn lanes. The entire project is scheduled to be complete by the end of June 2008.
