Route 120 northbound ramp to Route 17 northbound closed in Carlstadt
NJDOT to begin widening Route 120 bridge over NJ TRANSIT

(Trenton) - The New Jersey Department of Transportation (NJDOT) has announced the upcoming closure of the Route 120 northbound ramp to Route 17 northbound in Carlstadt Borough as work begins to widen Route 120/Paterson Plank Road over the NJ TRANSIT Pascack Valley line.

The ramp closure is necessary for NJDOT to advance a $29.7 million project to improve traffic flow and safety along Route 120/Paterson Plank Road in the boroughs of Carlstadt and East Rutherford, Bergen County.

On Monday, March 7, NJDOT is scheduled to close the ramp completely to traffic for approximately 10 weeks. During the closure, Route 120 northbound motorists destined for Route 17 northbound will continue over Route 17 where Route 120 becomes Paterson Avenue, and make a right on to Enoch Street. Motorists will then turn right to Hoboken Road to Route 17 southbound then immediately take the first loop ramp onto Paterson Avenue eastbound cross back over Route 17 to the ramp for Route 17 northbound.

Two travel lanes are being maintained on Route 120 in each direction during peak. Single-lane closures are allowed during overnight and off-peak hours. All work is weather permitting.

NJDOT is reconstructing and widening Route 120 Paterson Plank Road through the addition of an auxiliary right lane in each direction between the Route 17 and Murray Hill Parkway intersections. The Paterson Plank Road bridge over Route 17 has been widened on the eastbound side. New traffic signals have been installed at the intersection with Murray Hill Parkway and the Route 17 northbound on-and-off ramps. A new drainage system is also being installed on Route 120. The project is anticipated to be complete this fall 2011.

Route 120 runs approximately 2.5 miles through East Rutherford and Carlstadt connecting Route 3 and Route 17.

NJDOT will employ Variable Message Signs on Route 120 to inform motorists of the changes in traffic pattern. Real time travel and construction information is available online at www.511nj.org
