Route 202 to be closed for railroad-crossing repairs
in Oakland Borough

(Trenton) - NJDOT officials today announced that a portion of Route 202 in both directions is scheduled to be closed to rehabilitate a New York, Susquehanna and Western railroad grade crossing in Oakland Borough, Bergen County.

Route 202 (Ramapo Valley Road) will be closed to traffic, at the railroad crossing between W. Oakland Avenue and Yawpo Avenue, from 9 a.m. Thursday, November 10 until around 6 p.m. on Monday, November 14, weather dependent.

• Motorists heading south on Route 202 will be directed to take W. Oakland Avenue south to Doty Road to Route 202 – or to take W. Oakland Avenue to I-287 eastbound to Route 208 south to High Mountain Road to Colonial Road south to Long Hill Road west to Route 202.

• Motorists heading north on Route 202 will be directed to take Long Hill Road east (turns into Franklin Lakes Road) to Colonial Road north to I-287 westbound to Route 202.

The detour routes were coordinated with the Oakland Police Department. Access will be maintained to businesses and residential properties on either side of the rail line.

NJDOT will replace the existing crossing with a new concrete freight rail crossing and repave the asphalt approaches to provide a safer and smoother driving surface. The cost of the work is $323,000. This project is part of NJDOT’s ongoing railroad grade-crossing safety program which repairs, upgrades or removes approximately 30 crossings each year on state and local roadways.

The precise timing of the work is subject to change due to weather or other factors. Motorists are encouraged to check NJDOT’s traffic information website for construction updates and real-time travel information.
