Original traffic pattern restored on Main Avenue
over Route 46 in Clifton

(Trenton) - NJDOT officials today announced that Main Avenue has been restored to the normal traffic pattern on the newly reconstructed bridge over Route 46 in Clifton City, Passaic County.

NJDOT’s contractor, J.F. Creamer in a joint venture with Sanzari, Inc., has removed the temporary traffic pattern shift that had been in place, and restored the Main Avenue northbound and southbound travel-lanes back in their original configuration on the bridge. The bridge was replaced in stages allowed Main Avenue to remain open to traffic in each direction as the bridge was reconstructed. The contractor will now complete final paving and striping of the local roadway approaches in each direction.

Sewall Avenue, just east of the bridge, has been reopened to traffic at this time as well.

The Main Avenue bridge work was part of NJDOT’s ongoing $6 million project to replace and repair four structurally deficient bridges along and over Route 46 in Clifton. The Route 46 bridge over Route 19/Broad Street was replaced in the spring with a pre-fabricated structure installed by the contractor over two weekend periods. The Route 46 bridge decks over Paulison Avenue and the Norfolk Southern railroad line have also been repaired.

The project began construction in August 2010. NJDOT anticipates the project will be completed this winter.

Motorists are encouraged to check NJDOT’s real-time traffic information website for construction updates and real-time travel information.
