Pulaski Skyway South Kearny
ramp overnight closure this week

Installation of temporary shielding will require temporary detour

(Trenton) The New Jersey Department of Transportation (NJDOT) today announced that the South Kearny ramp to the Pulaski Skyway will be closed in both directions overnight this week.

The work to install temporary shielding is part of the $126 million Pulaski Contract 3, which will replace the existing bridge deck in the northbound direction.

NJDOT's contractor, CCA Civil, Inc., is scheduled to close the South Kearny ramp overnight from 9 p.m. through 6 a.m. the following morning beginning tonight, Monday, March 10 through Thursday night, March 13. Friday, March 14 the ramp will be closed from 11 p.m. until 9 a.m. Saturday, March 15.

A temporary detour will be in place:

  • Motorists heading northbound on the South Kearny ramp will be directed to 2 nd Street, Central Avenue, and Route 1&9T northbound.
  • Motorists heading southbound on the South Kearny Ramp will be directed to Raymond Boulevard to

Route 1&9T northbound to Central Avenue to 2nd Street.

  • Traffic on the Pulaski Skyway will not be affected.

In February 2014, NJDOT announced the northbound lanes of the Pulaski Skyway would be closed on April 12, 2014 for approximately two years while the existing deck of the 3.5-mile long structure that carries Route 1&9 traffic is replaced. Two southbound travel lanes will be maintained during this phase of the rehabilitation project.

NJDOT created a project-specific website - www.pulaskiskyway.com - which contains a wealth of information about the Skyway and the project, and will be updated with relevant new information as work progresses. The Department is carefully coordinating the Pulaski Skyway project with other regional transportation infrastructure projects to minimize traffic congestion.

The precise timing of the work is subject to change due to weather or other factors.  Motorists are encouraged to check www.511nj.org for real-time travel information.
