Route 42 northbound lane closures tonight in Bellmawr

Detour in place for overnight paving
between Creek Road and Browning Road

(Trenton) – New Jersey Department of Transportation (NJDOT) officials today announced overnight lane closures to pave Route 42 northbound from approximately Creek Road to Browning Road in Bellmawr, Camden County.

Beginning at 8 p.m. tonight, Friday, September 26, NJDOT’s contractor, PKF Mark III, Inc., will close one lane on Route 42 northbound, followed by closing the other two lanes by 11 p.m. to mill and pave Route 42 northbound. All three lanes will reopen by 8 a.m. Saturday, September 27.

All traffic will be detoured onto the Exit 1B ramp and then to Exit 27, which is a left exit, to get back onto Route 42/I-76. Motorists should slow down, use caution, and expect overnight delays.

Milling and paving on Route 42/I-76 between Creek Road and Market Street, Gloucester City, will continue over the next few weeks. NJDOT will provide traffic advisories in advance of upcoming work.

The $900 million federally funded Direct Connection project will provide a seamless route for I-295 motorists traveling through the interchange – through which approximately 250,000 vehicles travel daily to and from Camden, Philadelphia and other destinations. The project has been divided into four separate construction contracts, with completion of the fourth and final contract in the fall of 2021.

Dynamic message signs will be used to notify motorists of the lane closure and detours.  The precise timing of the work is subject to change due to weather or other factors.  Motorists are encouraged to check www.511nj.org for real-time travel information.
