Route 46 resurfacing project requires overnight lane closures in Morris County
Alternating lane closures necessary

(Trenton) - New Jersey Department of Transportation (NJDOT) officials today announced a resurfacing project on Route 46 that will require lane closures in both directions in Morris County.

Beginning on Thursday, June 2 from 9 pm. until 6 a.m., and continuing weeknights Monday through Friday, NJDOT’s contractor, Schifano Construction, Corp. is scheduled to temporarily close alternating lanes in both directions of Route 46 for the start of a milling and paving project from Naughright Road to Woodsedge Avenue in Mount Olive Township. On Saturday mornings, work may extend until 7 a.m.

The $1.9 million state-funded Route 46 resurfacing project is expected to be completed by fall 2016. Initial utility and curb work began in early spring for traffic signal upgrades at three Route 46 intersections with Sand Shore Road/Naughright Road, Smithtown Road/Wolfe Road, and Woodsedge Avenue. NJDOT has designed the milling and paving project to advance with temporary lane closures, reopening after each shift. Additional lane closures during off-peak hours may be necessary during milling and paving operations. Any required detours will be coordinated with the local authorities.

Variable message signs and detour signs are being utilized throughout the project limits to provide advance notification to motorists of all traffic pattern changes associated with the resurfacing project. Throughout the project, NJDOT will provide information before upcoming road or ramp closures.

The precise timing of the work is subject to change due to weather or other factors. Motorists are encouraged to check NJDOT's traffic information website www.511nj.org for real-time travel information and for NJDOT news follow us on Twitter @NJDOT_info.
