70 resurfacing project beginning tonight requires overnight westbound lane closure in Burlington County

Overnight detour necessary during construction

(Trenton) - New Jersey Department of Transportation (NJDOT) officials today announced Route 70 westbound will be closed overnight beginning tonight for a resurfacing project in Evesham and Medford in Burlington County.

Beginning at 8 p.m. tonight, Thursday, August 17, until 6 a.m. the next day and continuing Monday through Thursday nights until August 24, NJDOT’s contractor, A.E. Stone, is scheduled to close Route 70 westbound for the milling and paving of two miles of the roadway from approximately Greenbrook Drive in Evesham to about Old Marlton Pike in Medford, Burlington County. Route 70 eastbound traffic will be maintained throughout construction. The following detour for Route 70 westbound will be in place:

Route 70 westbound detour

Route 70 westbound traffic will directed to Evesboro-Medford Road to Greentree Road to North Maple Avenue to Route 70.

This work is part of a $980,000 project that began this week to resurface 3.5 miles of Route 70 from North Maple Avenue/CR607 (mile post 8.6) in Evesham through Old Marlton Pike (mile post 12.1) in Medford, which approximately 35,000 vehicles use each day. The project is part of the $400 million in FY17 supplemental TTF funding that Governor Christie requested for immediate action on multiple projects this year. NJDOT will use $260 million for repairing local roads and bridges in all 21 counties in the State, while $140 million will go to the New Jersey Transit Corporation for implementing technology and system safety improvements.

Variable message signs and detour signs are being utilized throughout the project limits to provide advance notification to motorists of all traffic pattern changes associated with the resurfacing project. Throughout the project, NJDOT will provide information before upcoming road or ramp closures.

The precise timing of the work is subject to change due to weather or other factors. Motorists are encouraged to check NJDOT's traffic information website www.511nj.org for real-time travel information and for NJDOT news follow us on Twitter @NJDOT_info.
