Ramp from Tonnele Circle to Pulaski Skyway closed on Saturday

Motorists directed to Route 1&9 Truck

(Trenton) - New Jersey Department of Transportation (NJDOT) officials today announced the ramp from the Tonnele Circle to the Pulaski Skyway is scheduled to be closed on Saturday with traffic being diverted onto Route 1&9 Truck, as the rehabilitation of the historic 85-year-old bridge advances.

From 7 a.m. until 10 p.m. tomorrow, Saturday, April 14, NJDOT’s contractor, CCA Civil Inc.-Daidone Joint Venture, is scheduled to close the ramp from Tonnele Circle to the Pulaski Skyway southbound for paving of the mainline adjacent to the ramp. Traffic will be directed to Route 1&9 Truck south.

Route 139 westbound to the Pulaski Skyway southbound will be open during this time.

Heavy congestion and delays are expected in Tonnele Circle. The work is being coordinated with the Pulaski Skyway Contract 2 project that is rehabilitating Route 139 upper and lower levels.

The following detour will be in place:

Route 1&9 Southbound Traffic (toward Newark):

• Traffic on Route 1&9 south heading toward Tonnele Circle will be directed to stay right and use the ramp to Route 1&9 Truck prior to the Circle
• Follow Route 1&9 Truck southbound across the Hackensack and Passaic Rivers and back onto Route 1&9

Tonnele Circle Traffic:
• Traffic in the Tonnele Circle will be directed to Tonnele Avenue southbound
• Turn right on Newark Avenue
• Turn left onto Route 1&9 Truck southbound
• Follow Route 1&9 Truck southbound across the Hackensack and Passaic Rivers and back onto Route 1&9

NJDOT created a project-specific website - www.pulaskiskyway.com - which contains a wealth of information about the Skyway and the project, and will be updated with relevant new information as work progresses. The Department is carefully coordinating the Pulaski Skyway project with other regional transportation infrastructure projects to minimize traffic congestion.

The Department has a project hotline telephone number, 973-776-7400, and email, Pulaski.Skyway@dot.nj.gov. Anyone who has questions, concerns, or suggestions is encouraged to contact the Project Outreach Team as work progresses.

NJDOT will be using Variable Message Signs to provide advance notification to motorists of traffic pattern changes associated with the work. Motorists are encouraged to check NJDOT's traffic information website www.511nj.org for real-time travel information and for NJDOT news follow us on Twitter @NJDOT_info @Skywayrehab and on the NJDOT Facebook page.
