Route 21 resurfacing project to begin in Passaic County
Overnight lane and ramp closures necessary during construction
(Trenton) - New Jersey Department of Transportation (NJDOT) officials today announced the start of a safety improvement project to resurface lanes on Route 21 northbound and southbound between Dayton Street in Passaic and Route 46 in Clifton.
Beginning 9 a.m. tomorrow, Wednesday, June 6, NJDOT’s Contractor, Della Pello Paving, will temporarily close shoulders for sign installation and prep work along Route 21 in both directions between Dayton Street (milepost 12.68) and Route 46 (milepost 14.45). Milling and paving is expected to begin mid-summer and work is expected to be completed by the end of the year. Over the course of the project, the following ramps will be detoured overnight:
1) Route 21 northbound ramp to Ackerman Ave
2) Ackerman Avenue to Route 21 Southbound
3) Outwater Lane to Route 21 Northbound
4) Route 21 Southbound ramp to Randolph Avenue
5) Route 21 Southbound ramp to Lexington Avenue
This $3.5 million improvement project includes upgrading traffic signals, improved drainage systems, guiderails, and milling and paving the ramps and mainline roadway.
Variable message sign boards and lane closure signs are being utilized throughout the project limits to provide advance notification to motorists of planned closures. NJDOT will provide notification before any lane or ramp closures.
