Railroad-crossing repairs begin tomorrow in Woodbury

Necessary safety work will require road closure and detours

(Trenton) -New Jersey Department of Transportation (NJDOT) officials today reminded motorists that a railroad crossing rehabilitation project is beginning tomorrow that will require a three-day closure and detour of Park Avenue in Woodbury, Gloucester County.

Beginning at 7 a.m., tomorrow, Tuesday, September 18, until 7 p.m., Thursday, September 21, the two-way traffic on Park Avenue between Route 45/North Broad Street and North Evergreen Avenue is scheduled to be closed at the railroad crossing. The existing railroad crossing will be removed and replaced with a new concrete crossing and asphalt approach. This closure was initially scheduled for Tuesday, September 11 but was rescheduled due to weather.

The following detours will be in place:

Park Avenue eastbound
Motorists traveling on Route 45/North Broad Street wishing to travel eastbound on Park Avenue will be directed to turn left onto Edith Avenue, left onto Washington Avenue, right onto Deptford Avenue, left onto North Evergreen Avenue, back onto Park Avenue.

Park Avenue westbound
Motorists traveling westbound on Park Avenue will be directed to turn left onto Washington Avenue, right onto Edith Avenue, right onto Route 45/North Broad Street to Park Avenue.

The traffic detours will be coordinated with the local police. The roadway will be reopened if work is completed earlier.

In order to provide safer and smoother railroad crossing in Woodbury, Gloucester County, the existing crossings will be replaced with new concrete crossings and new asphalt approaches. This federally-funded project is included within NJDOT’s railroad grade-crossing safety program that repairs, upgrades, or removes approximately 30 crossings each year, statewide

The precise timing of the work is subject to change due to weather or other factors. Motorists are encouraged to check NJDOT's traffic information website www.511nj.org for real-time travel information and for NJDOT news follow us on Twitter @NJDOT_info or on the NJDOT Facebook page.
