Route 9 northbound traffic to be restored and detour removed as Bridge over Waretown Creek project in Ocean Township advances

Traffic shift required for next phase of work

(Trenton) -New Jersey Department of Transportation (NJDOT) officials today announced that the Route 9 northbound detour will be removed and traffic will be restored to the newly constructed roadway on Saturday, February 9 as the Route 9 Bridge over Waretown Creek in Ocean County construction project advances. This work was rescheduled from last week due to inclement weather.

Beginning at 8 p.m., Friday, February 8, until 7 a.m., Saturday, NJDOT’s contractor Earle Asphalt, will remove the detour and restore Route 9 northbound traffic onto the newly constructed east side of the bridge. A traffic shift will be implemented using the northbound travel lane and shoulder to carry both southbound and northbound traffic.

A work zone on the west side of the roadway will be created to allow for the demolition and rebuilding of the west side of the Route 9 Bridge over Waretown Creek. One lane of traffic will be maintained in each direction. This configuration will be in place for approximately six months.

The $3.1 million federally funded project will replace the bridge, rated to be in poor condition, located between Bryant Road and Birdsall Street in Ocean Township. The project is advancing in stages to minimize the disruption to traffic.

The precise timing of the work is subject to change due to weather or other factors. As work progresses, NJDOT will issue additional traffic advisories.
