Route 120 southbound ramp to Route 3 eastbound mainline to be closed as deck repair project advances in Bergen County

Traffic will be diverted onto the ramp to Route 3 eastbound service road

(Trenton) -New Jersey Department of Transportation (NJDOT) officials today announced the closure of the Route 120 southbound ramp to Route 3 eastbound mainline beginning tonight in East Rutherford, Bergen County.

Route 120 southbound splits with a single lane ramp on the right going to the Route 3 eastbound service road and a two-lane ramp on the left going to Route 3 eastbound mainline.

Beginning at 11 p.m. tonight, Friday, May 10, NJDOT’s contractor J.F. Creamer & Son Joint Venture with Joseph M. Sanzari Inc., is scheduled to close the left ramp from Route 120 southbound to Route 3 eastbound mainline for the duration of the project. All traffic will be directed to use the ramp on the right side of Route 120 southbound to the Route 3 eastbound service road.

During events at the Meadowlands, one lane on the Route 120 southbound ramp to Route 3 eastbound mainline will be reopened.

The $8.3 million federally-funded project will replace the bridge decks on two separate ramps on Route 120 over Route 3. Construction on the bridge that carries Route 120 southbound to Route 3 eastbound mainline and Route 120 northbound to Route 3 westbound will be done in multiple stages with the deck cast in place.

Work on the other bridge, from Sheraton Plaza Drive/Route 120 northbound over Route 3 eastbound, will be constructed in multiple stages with precast panels later in the project. In addition to the deck replacement, the project will add approach slabs to both bridges, replace parapets and guiderail, and repair concrete on the piers of both bridges.

The project is expected to be completed in the fall 2020.

Construction signs will provide advance notification to motorists of traffic pattern changes associated with the work. The precise timing of the work is subject to change due to weather or other factors. Motorists are encouraged to check NJDOT's traffic information website www.511nj.org for real-time travel information and for NJDOT news follow us on Twitter @NJDOT_info and on the NJDOT Facebook page.
