River Drive to be closed and detoured next week for railroad-crossing repairs in Elmwood Park
Necessary safety work will require road closure and detours
(Trenton) -New Jersey Department of Transportation (NJDOT) officials today announced that River Drive will be closed and detoured next week for a railroad crossing rehabilitation project just north of I-80 Exit 61 in Elmwood Park, Bergen County.
Beginning at 7 a.m., Monday, July 15, until 7 p.m., Friday, July 19, River Drive will be closed and detoured between Market Street and the River Drive/River Road intersection. Local access will be maintained for residents and businesses. The following signed detours will be in place:
River Drive northbound
- Motorists traveling on River Drive northbound will be directed to turn left onto Market Street
- Turn right onto River Road to River Drive
Traffic using I-80 westbound Exit 61 towards River Drive northbound will be directed to turn left onto River Drive and then right onto Market Street to join the established northbound detour.
River Drive southbound
- Motorists traveling on River Drive southbound will be directed to turn right onto River Road
- Turn left onto Market Street to River Drive
This federally funded project includes the replacement of the existing concrete railroad crossing and asphalt approaches, and is a part of NJDOT’s railroad grade-crossing safety program that repairs, upgrades, or removes approximately 30 crossings per year statewide.
The traffic detours will be coordinated with the local police. If work is completed earlier, the roadway will be reopened accordingly.
The precise timing of the work is subject to change due to weather or other factors. Motorists are encouraged to check NJDOT's traffic information website www.511nj.org for real-time travel information and for NJDOT news follow us on Twitter @NJDOT_info or on the NJDOT Facebook page.
