December 30, 2025 - The U.S. The Department of Labor announced the availability of $98 million in funding to support the development of pre-apprenticeships in high-demand industries including construction, advanced manufacturing, information technology, and healthcare. Funded through the department’s YouthBuild Program, the grants will help provide academic support, occupational skills training and employment services to young people, ages 16 to 24, in communities where many youths are not participating in the labor force.

December 30, 2025- U.S. Transportation Secretary Sean P. Duffy announced more than $118 million in grant awards to strengthen the safety of America’s roadways, enhance commercial vehicle enforcement, and provide high-quality training for military veterans entering the trucking industry. These Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA) grants direct critical resources to state and local partners to reduce crashes through data-driven enforcement. The investments also bolster the integrity of the Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) system to ensure only qualified drivers are getting behind the wheel.

6 projects share $1.7M in 2026 NJ Transit Village grants
December 29, 2025- Six New Jersey municipalities will receive fiscal year 2026 funds from the state to help advance transit-oriented development projects across five counties. Gov. Phil Murphy announced the Transit Village Program grants in December. The awards will reach Atlantic, Burlington, Essex, Hunterdon and Monmouth counties.

19 States Sue HHS Over a Move That Could Curtail Youth Gender-Affirming Care
December 24, 2025 - A coalition of 19 states (including NJ) and the District of Columbia on Tuesday sued the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, its secretary, Robert F. Kennedy Jr., and its inspector general over a declaration that could complicate access to gender-affirming care for young people. It also warned doctors that they could be excluded from federal health programs like Medicare and Medicaid if they provide those types of care.

December 23, 2025 - U.S. Department of Transportation Secretary Sean P. Duffy today announced nearly $1 billion in funding to make roads safer for American families. This investment will support projects that improve intersection safety, build roundabouts, upgrade sidewalks, and strengthen emergency response services—making streets safer in communities across the country.

DOJ: Education Department’s Race-Based Grants Are Unconstitutional
December 22, 2025 - The U.S. Department of Justice issued a legal memo earlier this month declaring that several of the U.S. Department of Education’s grant programs for minority-serving institutions and students from underrepresented backgrounds are unconstitutional.

US Department of Justice Halts Funding For Human-Trafficking Survivors
December 22, 2025 - More than 100 organizations that support victims of human trafficking have lost funding since October, leaving thousands of survivors at risk, a Guardian investigation has found. Anti-trafficking advocates say the US Department of Justice’s failure to spend nearly $90m appropriated by Congress is impeding law-enforcement investigations and exposing survivors to homelessness and the risk of deportation, jail time or re-exploitation.

December 16, 2025- The New Jersey Department of Health (NJDOH) and the New Jersey Department of Human Services (NJDHS) announced that the federal government has approved approximately $540 million in funding to help hospitals care for uninsured residents and to improve outpatient services for Medicaid patients.

Six Fire Departments in Central Jersey Share $510,531 Federal Grant
December 16, 2025 - Congressman Tom Kean, Jr. (NJ-07) on Tuesday announced that $510,531 in federal grant funding will be delivered to six fire departments in New Jersey’s 7th Congressional District to support their public safety missions. The funding was provided through the Federal Emergency Management Agency’s (FEMA) Fiscal Year 2024 Assistance to Firefighters Grants (AFG) program.

U.S. Department of Ed Awards $256 Million in Literacy Grants
December 15, 2025 - The U.S. Department of Education has announced $256 million in new Education Innovation and Research (EIR) grants to improve literacy nationwide. These grants are the first awards made using three of Secretary McMahon’s grantmaking priorities: strengthening evidence-based literacy instruction, expanding education choice, and returning education to the states.

NSF and partners invest $9M in AI-focused math education program
December 15, 2025 - The U.S. National Science Foundation Directorate for Social, Behavioral, and Economic Sciences (NSF SBE) has launched the Collaboratory to Advance Mathematics Education and Learning (CAMEL), a new $9 million investment aimed at transforming K-12 mathematics learning and education. Supported through an agreement with philanthropic partners, including the Walton Family Foundation, CAMEL advances interdisciplinary collaboration that brings together artificial intelligence, the science of learning, education practice and data science.

Duffy announced a Notice of Funding Opportunity (NOFO) through Better Utilizing Investments to Leverage Development (BUILD) Grants for Fiscal Year 2026 that makes $1.5 billion available for infrastructure projects across the country. Under Secretary Duffy, the merit criteria of BUILD grants will prioritize increasing safety measures, expanding transportation options for American families

Federal judge orders FEMA to restore billions in canceled disaster mitigation funding
December 11, 2025 - A federal judge in Massachusetts ordered the Trump administration to restore billions of dollars in canceled FEMA disaster mitigation funding, siding with 22 states and the District of Columbia that sued over the canceled grants this summer. President Donald Trump’s administration said in April it was “ending” the Building Resilient Infrastructure and Communities (BRIC) program, which helped communities with pre-disaster projects to harden infrastructure and improve resilience against the increasing threats of climate change.

Education Department distributes more than $208M in new mental health grants
December 11, 2025 - The U.S. Department of Education announced new allocations for its mental health grants, which it revoked from over 200 original recipients earlier this year. The new grants total more than $208 million, but are significantly less than the nearly $1 billion in funds pulled from school-based programs and providers earlier this year, according to court documents. The grants were rescinded because of their alleged use to fund diversity, equity and inclusion efforts in providing student mental healthcare services.

Trump administration to rethink changes to homelessness grant program after lawsuits
December 8, 2025 - President Donald Trump's administration withdrew for now sweeping changes it recently announced to a $3 billion grant program providing services for homeless people, in response to lawsuits by states, cities and nonprofit groups. The administration, in a filing in Rhode Island federal court, said the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development pulled back changes to its Continuum of Care grant program, including a cap on the amount of funding that can be used for permanent housing and a ban on grants for groups that focus on transgender communities, to assess issues raised in the lawsuits.

The goal of the campaign is to address a common refrain from the public – it can be challenging to travel as a family. From needing more dedicated spaces for young children and exercise equipment, to finding places for mothers to nurse their children, to staying fit on the go, or struggling to find more healthy food options, the Trump Administration is committed to making every stage of the travel journey more seamless. To improve families’ experiences in airport terminals, Secretary Duffy announced $1 billion in funding to incentivize more family-friendly resources in airport terminals.

Long awaited $6.5B in heating assistance released to states and tribes
November 28, 2025 - Approximately $3.6 billion in delayed funding for the Low Income Home Energy Assistance Program, or LIHEAP, was released Friday to states and tribes, according to the National Energy Assistance Directors Association. The federal funding for LIHEAP, which helps millions of low-income households pay to heat and cool their homes, has been held up during the beginning of the cold-weather season because of the federal government shutdown, which ended Nov. 12.

November 20, 2025 - The Black Inventors Hall of Fame (BIHOF) Museum announced that it received a $500,000 grant from the Institute of Museum and Library Services (IMLS). The funding will be used to curate its flagship exhibit: the Charles Frederick Page Immersive Experience Airship (dirigible).

November 19, 2025 - The National Park Service has awarded the Department of Environmental Protection a combined $950,000 in grants to implement an interior rehabilitation project, improve educational resources and support stream and riparian restoration at the Wallace House, a Revolutionary War historic site in Somerville, Somerset County. Additionally, a $200,000 Preservation Planning Grant from the National Park Service’s American Battlefield Protection Program will fund the creation of a report to guide historic interpretation upgrades and environmental rehabilitation at the site.

November 19, 2025 - The U.S. Department of Labor announced today that its Mine Safety and Health Administration has awarded more than $10.5 million in grants to organizations in 45 states, the Navajo Nation, and the Commonwealth of the Northern Mariana Islands to reduce mining accidents, injuries, and illnesses by supporting programs such as safety and health courses. NJ listed among awardees (NJDOL $75,974).

Education Department to offload grant programs as Trump works to close it
November 18, 2025 - The Department of Education announced it will offload billions of dollars in grant programs to other federal agencies, moving the Trump administration closer to its goal of shuttering the department. Officials said Tuesday that they had signed agreements empowering the Labor Department to administer most K-12 and higher education grants and the State Department to oversee foreign language education programs.

NJ community colleges brace as DOJ declines to protect minority-serving grants
November 17, 2025- Urban community colleges enrolling large numbers of Hispanic, Black and low-income students in New Jersey and nationwide are canceling programs and staring down the possibility of funding cuts as the Trump administration moves closer to ending a critical grant program that supports Hispanic-serving institutions.

HUD Blocked From Requiring Grantees to Comply With Trump Orders
November 17, 2025- The Department of Housing and Urban Development is barred for now from forcing grant recipients to comply with President Donald Trump’s executive orders on immigration and diversity, equity, and inclusion. The new grant requirements “far exceed the authority delegated to HUD by Congress and contradict a variety of federal laws in meaningful and consequential ways,” Judge Jon S. Tigar of the US District Court for the Northern District of California said.

November 13, 2025 - President Donald Trump signed a bill into law Wednesday night to reopen the government, after the House passed it earlier in the day. After a 43-day stalemate, seven Senate Democrats and one independent joined Senate Republicans over the weekend to broker a new deal to end the longest shutdown in U.S. history.
