NJ Department of Human Services

NJ Division of Medical Assistance & Health Service (Medicaid)

The NJ Division of Medical Assistance and Health Services (DMAHS), housed in the NJ Department of Human Services (DHS), administers New Jersey's state and federally-funded Medicaid program and the Children's Health Insurance Program, known as NJ FamilyCare.

Medicaid-Based Services and Supports:

NJ State Medicaid: NJ FamilyCare

NJ FamilyCare is a federal and state-funded program created to help New Jersey residents obtain affordable health insurance. NJ FamilyCare is for people who do not have insurance through their employer. Assistance with the application process and understanding eligibility requirements can be found by contacting the appropriate County Welfare Agency.

NJ State Medicaid: NJ FamilyCare Aged, Blind, Disabled

The NJ FamilyCare Aged, Blind, Disabled Programs (ABD) are for people who need access to health care services in the community or are in long-term care facilities. NJ Medicaid Managed Care Organizations

NJ Medicaid beneficiaries enroll in a health plan or Managed Care Organization (MCO) that provides care coordination and access to providers. Managed Care Organizations also provide regular NJ FamilyCare Medicaid benefits like preventative health services. There are five Managed Care Organizations that provide these services.

NJ Department of Banking and Insurance (DOBI)

The NJ Department of Banking and Insurance (DOBI) regulates the banking, insurance, and real estate industries. It promotes the growth, financial stability, and efficiency of these industries while protecting and educating consumers. The NJ Division of Insurance regulates and licenses various insurance programs in the state including certain types of private health and dental insurance.

Get Covered NJ

Get Covered New Jersey is the state's official health insurance marketplace. It is where individuals and families can easily shop for and buy health coverage. The state's Marketplace, Get Covered NJ, was established by law in 2019 to improve access to healthcare for New Jersey residents.

NJ Office of Insurance Claims Ombudsman

The Office of the Insurance Claims Ombudsman, housed in the NJ Department of Banking and Insurance assists consumers with issues related to insurance availability, claims processing, and coverage questions. The Office also monitors carrier compliance with insurance laws.

US Department of Health and Human Services

The US Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) oversees the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS), which administers programs for protecting the health of all Americans, including Medicare, the Marketplace, Medicaid, and the Children's Health Insurance Program (CHIP).

Medicare

Medicare is a federal health insurance program for people 65 years or older, individuals with a qualifying disability, or individuals with a qualifying disease. Individuals with disabilities who have paid into the Medicare system and are receiving SSDI benefits qualify for Medicare.
