Treasury Issues Explanatory Letters for PAS-1 Property Tax Relief Applications
Department advises seniors to apply by 10/31 deadline

(TRENTON) – This week, the New Jersey Department of the Treasury’s Division of Taxation began mailing explanatory letters to senior homeowners who submitted the PAS-1 Combined Property Tax Relief application earlier this year.

Each letter outlines the specific property tax relief benefit amounts the applicant is eligible to receive through the Senior Freeze (Property Tax Reimbursement), ANCHOR, and StayNJ programs. The letters provide:

  • A breakdown of benefits, detailing the total relief from each program;
  • Eligibility results identifying which programs the applicant qualified for;
  • A notice that StayNJ payments will begin in 2026 on a quarterly schedule, subject to annual budget appropriations.

In its report to the Governor and the Legislature, the Stay NJ Task Force recommended these letters outlining the benefits should be sent prior to the November tax bill.

As in previous years, property tax relief benefits are being distributed on a rolling basis, and applicants can expect payments to continue over the coming weeks.

The Division of Taxation encourages recipients to review their letters carefully and verify the information used to calculate their benefit. Anyone who believes their letter contains incorrect information should respond in writing within 30 days of the letter’s date, and provide supporting documentation.

All seniors who have not yet filed the PAS-1 Combined Property Tax Relief application are reminded that the deadline to file remains October 31, 2025. Eligible residents aged 65 or older, or those receiving Social Security Disability benefits, can apply online or by mail through propertytaxrelief.nj.gov
