National Lieutenant Governors Association 2024 Summer Meeting to Be Held in Jersey City

TRENTON, NJ – New Jersey Lieutenant Governor Sheila Oliver today announced that Jersey City was awarded the opportunity to host the National Lieutenant Governors Association (NLGA) for a summer meeting in 2024.

The nonpartisan NLGA meeting convenes lieutenant governors and seconds-in-command from across the country to discuss policy ideas, initiatives, and best practices among the states.

“I’m proud to invite my peers to Jersey City to enjoy a metropolitan melting pot of cultures known for being home to more than a dozen Fortune 500 companies and for its incredible green space along the Hudson River,” said Lt. Governor Oliver, who serves as NLGA treasurer and Commissioner of the New Jersey Department of Community Affairs. “We will showcase the Powerhouse Arts District and the city’s more than 800 places to eat, drink, and shop.”

“This event will be a great opportunity for state leaders from around the country to see all that New Jersey has to offer,” Lt. Governor Oliver added. “I’m looking forward to welcoming fellow lieutenant governors to Jersey City to discuss the issues that matter most to those we serve.”

“Many of the key policies and initiatives we have implemented over the past 10 years often serve as a model for other municipalities across the nation to follow, and so we look forward to being a part of the important conversations that will take place surrounding the critical issues that cities and towns across the U.S. are facing,” said City of Jersey Mayor Steven Fulop. “We are honored to welcome the National Lieutenant Governors Association and look forward to hosting prominent decision-makers from across the country.”

“NLGA thanks Lt. Governor Oliver for her work in pursuing the opportunity to host this meeting in Jersey City in the Summer of 2024,” said NLGA Director Julia Brossart

The NLGA meets three times a year. It also engages in international meetings and missions to bring the opportunity for economic, political, cultural, and/or academic benefit to NLGA members and the states and territories. Additionally, it offers the nation’s second-highest state officeholders the opportunity to assume national leadership roles, foster interstate cooperation, and share best practices for the benefit of their constituents.
