DCA Update about Plainfield Apartment Complex

TRENTON, NJ – The New Jersey Department of Community Affairs (DCA) and some of its grantees have been onsite at 501 and 515 West Seventh Street in Plainfield today to assist and support the City of Plainfield and Union County in their efforts to identify people who need help as a result of one of the apartment complex buildings being condemned by City officials earlier this week for housing violations.

DCA is prepared to make available $1.5 million in temporary housing assistance for people displaced until they can return home once the housing violations are abated by the property owner.

The assistance will come from federal funds and state homelessness diversion funds. It will be used for temporary assistance with rent, security deposits, moving assistance, case management, and other needs.

The Department and Administration will continue to collaborate with the City of Plainfield and Union County on their efforts to provide resources.

DCA offers a wide range of programs and services, including local government management and finance, affordable housing production, rental assistance, fire safety, building safety, disaster recovery and mitigation, historic preservation, community planning and development, and information privacy.
